What Our Students Are Saying ...

As a disabled veteran of the US Army Forces attending college, I would like to take this opportunity to convey my exceedingly positive experiences at New Jersey City University.  The most essential characteristic that a veteran should consider when selecting a college or university is whether or not the academic institution contains a first rate veterans' support system in place.

Through personal experience, I can attest that New Jersey City University has always met my numerous and difficult times.  With respect to the processing of veterans paperwork such as the Montgomery GI bill and vocational rehabilitation, the veteran's affairs office at NJCU continuously guided me through the process.  Veteran counselors are very professional, knowledgeable, and most importantly, caring.  Never have they neglected to file the appropriate documentation for my educational benefits or to assist me in any other task that required the submission of lengthy and complicated paperwork.

NJCU Veteran counselors are always available to aid a student in a crisis, whether academic or personal, the staff is approachable as well as understanding.  They will help students overcome any endeavor from a scheduling problem to a more serious situation.  Veteran counselors at NJCU also work closely with advisers who assist students with disabilities.  As a service connected disabled veteran currently enrolled in the program, I can verify that the accommodations that I have received for my disability have been outstanding.  Every effort has been made to make me as comfortable as possible, as well as to ensure that my disability will not impede my academic experience.  Advisers take great measures to guarantee that both the student and staff are working hand and hand to overcome whatever adverse conditions a student may face due to a disability or injury.

In short, higher education can be difficult in itself; however, the veteran counselors and the disability advisers at NJCU have greatly relieved the burden.  Had they not rallied around me during some very difficult situations, I may not be in a position where I can say that I am a senior, who upon graduation, intends to continue on to graduate school.

Respectfully,

My name is Becky Patterson and I'm a junior at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, as well as a member of the Air National Guard at the 177th FW.  The Student Veterans Club, in my opinion, is going to be a great addition to the campus' activities.  Although every student is here for the same purpose, subconsciously for us military it feels as if we've already separated ourselves by swearing in on that oath of placing duty above ourselves.  It's an encouraging feeling for the college to recognize our situation and acknowledge our time spent playing dual roles as soldier and student.  I can not express my excitement for the club as I regard it as an opportunity with endless possibilities.  As a student of the Veterans Club will provide a means of meeting other like-minded people here on campus who all share a common past and future.  In our efforts, we are going to find ways to push education benefits for military men and women.  As a group we can set up community service programs, coordinating with local VFW organizations and even military bases.  We will be able to raise awareness to the campus of our presence and give witness that it's possible to achieve ones goals.  To me and my fellow comrades, it can be confidently said that this club is long over due and greatly anticipated by many.

I am writing on behalf of the Veterans Student Organization at Rowan University.  As the new president of the organization, I am proud to represent our veteran population.  It is a distinct privilege to be granted an opportunity like this and I am eager to reach out to our vets.

I must add that Rowan's Veterans Affairs is unlike any I have ever experienced.

In the past, I found it difficult to contact representatives that are willing to help, or simply return a phone message.  This is not the case here at Rowan.

Since day one, there have not been any questions or concerns left unanswered.  I felt welcomed, accepted and appreciated -- as a military veteran should always feel.

I congratulate our Veteran Student Organization and Veterans Affairs' employees for their stellar efforts.  It is exciting to be part of a group who practices core values that are familiar to veterans everywhere:  Honor, Courage and Commitment.
