Dear Friends and Supporters,

OCP has had an exciting start to 2011.  Here are some of the highlights ...

Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) Symposium—Several members of the OCP Advisory Council contributed to a concurrent session at the Symposium held in Tampa in February.  Louis Martini moderated the panel of Kelli Parlante-Givas, Wendy Lang, John Powers, and Lauren DelRicci, which discussed the collaborative model of OCP and our professional development programming.  It was a great pleasure to meet veterans’ supporters from all over the country and share the outstanding work everyone is doing here in New Jersey.  A special thanks to John Mikelson for his stand-in role.

American Council on Education (ACE) Forum—OCP was well-represented at the ACE annual forum, where the 2009 grantees were highlighted during both the Ice Cream Social and a concurrent session.  It was an opportunity to catch up with some old friends and meet some new, while learning about the innovative programs developed through the ACE/Walmart “Success for Veterans” grant awards.  Thanks for having us ACE!

Vets on Campus Highlight—Montclair State University—Montclair State University has recently created a newsletter for veterans and by veterans.  The “Vet” discusses activities around campus as well as disseminates information relevant to the student veteran population.  You can view the newsletter here.

As part of their Women’s History Month activities, MSU hosted a showing of “The Lioness,” which profiles a group of women soldiers deployed to Iraq as support personnel—mechanics, cooks, and clerks—but found themselves in actual combat situations.  The campus also hosted a “Welcome Back from Spring Break” barbecue, in collaboration with the Muslim Student Organization.  Great Job MSU!!
